Bennet's Club, 21 Leyton Road, Harpenden

£10*
*ticket price includes a free drink, a goody bag and a chance to win signed copies of the books!

I am so looking forward to this event! It's going to be so interesting to chat with four authors who all have such interesting backgrounds. It'll be fascinating to hear about how their personal and professional experiences have inspired their fiction, as well as gaining more insight into the world of publishing. All four women are with the same publishing company, Bloodhound Books, of which  Betsy Reavley, also author of several novels, is the founder and Publishing Director.

My huge thanks to Betsy, Liz, Tara and Ali who are all making such long journeys to visit Harpenden and chat books for the evening.

So, let me tell you more about these lovely ladies and their novels!

LIZ MISTRY

Liz Mistry is an ex teacher who taught in inner city Bradford schools for over twenty years. She's currently completing her dissertation for an MA in creative writing at Leeds Trinity University and also runs The Crime Warp Blog .

UNQUIET SOULS

When the body of a prostitute is found, followed by the discovery of children locked in an attic, DI Gus McGuire is handed the case. But what at first appears to be a simple murder soon turns into an international manhunt for the members of a twisted child trafficking ring.

McGuire who is suffering with his own emotional problems, must pick his way through the web of deceit and uncover the truth in time before the body count rises.

Can McGuire identify The Matchmaker before it’s too late? And can he trust those he is working with?

Unquiet Souls is the first book in a dark and compelling police series.

ALISON MORGAN

Alison Morgan has 30 years of experience in the NHS, mostly spent in Mental Health Nursing where she specialised in psychosis. Her debut novel A Justifiable Madness is inspired by her life and career as a Psychiatric Nurse, and her fascination with the extremes of human behaviour.

DIVINE POISON

For a community psychiatric nurse, Monica Morris has an unhealthy interest in poison, and when, on impulse, she buys an antique Ship’s Doctor’s Cabinet with a set of leather-bound journals she becomes fascinated by the content.

A few days later, she discovers the body of her patient, Jan Collins, and although police assume suicide by overdose, Monica is not convinced.

When more unexplained deaths involving poisoning occur, Monica realises they are linked and so does DS Adams who is investigating. But how are they connected? And why?

When it becomes obvious that she’s unwittingly stepped into a trap set for someone else, Monica’s career, her own sanity and her life are placed at risk. But where can she turn to for help?

Divine Poison will appeal to fans of authors like LJ Ross, Joy Ellis, Faith Martin and Ed James

BETSY REAVLEY

Betsy Reavley showed a flair for literature and writing from a young age. In her early twenties her interests turned from poetry to novels and she began to develop her own unique style of psychological thriller. Betsy says "I believe people are at their most fascinating when they are faced by the dark side of life. This is what I like to write about."

THE OPTICIAN'S WIFE

Can you ever really know someone?

When Deborah, an unpopular seventeen-year-old, meets the charming and handsome Larry, he sweeps her off her feet. The trouble is Larry has a secret.

Then a series of grisly murders cast a shadow over everything.

As Deborah’s world starts to fall apart she begins to suspect the man she loves of a terrible betrayal. And to keep their marriage alive, sacrifices must be made.

A compelling, psychological thriller that unpicks what goes on behind closed doors and reminds us that sometimes the worst crimes can take place closer to home than you think.

The Optician's Wife is a powerful psychological thriller. If you are a fan of authors like Angela Marsons, Kathryn Croft, Helen Durrant, Barbara Vine or Rachel Abbott you will be gripped by this brilliant and bracing psychological thriller.

TARA LYONS

Tara Lyons is a crime/psychological thriller author from London. Turning 30 in 2015 propelled her to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a writer. She studied English Literature at Brunel University and was Assistant Editor at an in-house magazine for 8 years. She has also co-written with New York Times bestselling author, M.A Comley - The Caller and Web of Deceit.

DEADLY FRIENDSHIP

Who can you really trust?

Detective Inspector Denis Hamilton is dragged into a gruesome murder investigation, while on annual leave at Lake Windermere. A handwritten note, with a woman’s name, is found inside the corpse.

When a direct link to London is identified, Hamilton must race against the clock to make the connection before the body count rises.

Meanwhile, four friends with strained relationships, are reunited. What past event do they want to keep buried and is there something linking them to the murders?

Then, when a person from Hamilton's past returns, he must ask himself: how well do we really know our friends?

London’s murder investigations team returns in this third novel from the bestselling D I Hamilton series.

As you can see, it's a fantastic line up! I have so many questions and things I want to chat about with them already! Please come along, listen and meet the authors on the 21st February. It's going to be a great night!

Many thanks in advance to Harpenden Books for coming along and selling copies of the books at the event which the authors will then sign!

  1. Hi Katherine,

Four new to me authors, but I can honestly say that there isn't one book you feature, that I wouldn't be eager to read.

I am off now to spend a few minutes checking them all out in more detail and marking them for my Goodreads 'Want To Read' shelf.

Thanks for sharing, whilst the event you mention is just too far for me to think of attending, I hope that all goes well and you have a great time :)
